North St. Louis Soil & Water Conservation District Celebrates 75 Years with Community Open House

Virginia, MN — The North St. Louis Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is celebrating 75 years of conservation with a community Open House on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 2:00–6:00 PM at the North St. Louis SWCD office, 505 3rdSt. N., Ste A, Virginia, MN, 55792.

Founded on September 22, 1950, the North St. Louis SWCD has worked for decades alongside landowners, communities, and partners to protect and enhance the lands and waters of the region. The anniversary event will showcase the District’s history, highlight past and current conservation projects, and provide opportunities for residents to connect with staff and learn about available programs and resources.

A highlight of the afternoon will be a live demonstration from 2:00–3:00 PM by Conservation Officer Cassie Block and her K9 partner Jet, who is specially trained to detect aquatic invasive zebra mussels.

“This event is not only a chance to celebrate our history, but also to look ahead at the future of conservation in our communities,” said Kaela Veihman, St. Louis River Watershed Conservationist with the North St. Louis SWCD. “We want people to see how conservation connects directly to their land, water, and daily lives.”

The open house is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided, and community members are encouraged to attend and share in this milestone celebration.
