Letter to Editor
Good afternoon, neighbors,
I wanted to share a quick update and request following a conversation with our local post office this afternoon. Unfortunately, sometime between Sunday night and Monday, their front door was broken and someone defecated inside their lobby (a police report has been filed). They also mentioned another nearby business experienced a similar incident with their door (apologies—I don’t have full details on that one).
As we all know, incidents like this impact the safety and spirit of our community.
Because of this recent activity, I’m once again reaching out to TEDA and the City of Tower with a request to consider installing live cameras along Main Street, similar to what’s been done in Ely. These cameras could serve a dual purpose:
Deterring crime and supporting law enforcement
Promoting our beautiful town to potential visitors online
At Tower Cafe, we’re more than willing to:
Provide free access to our Starlink internet if cameras are placed near our building
Help contribute toward the cost of cameras
Assist in coordinating with tech vendors to make it happen
If you believe this would be a helpful addition to our downtown, I encourage you to also reach out to the City and TEDA. A few supportive voices can go a long way in helping this move forward.
For quick reference, here are some common uses for live cameras in other communities:
🔹 Why Live Cams?
Tourism Promotion: Visitors love checking out a town before they come.
Community Engagement: Great for locals and former residents to stay connected.
Event Awareness: Highlight parades, festivals, and seasonal beauty.
Safety & Crime Prevention: Adds a layer of deterrence and support for investigations.
Thank you for your time—and for being part of what makes this town so special.
Best regards,
Jen
