Lake Country Power line crews respond to another batch of storms early Sunday morning

Cohasset, MN – Another batch of thunderstorms hit Lake Country Power’s service area early Sunday morning, July 27. Since then, crews have restored electricity for more than 6,900 co-op members. As of Monday at 9:30 a.m., there are 80 members without service as crews continue working to restore service today.

The number of outages grew quickly as a line of thunderstorms traveled from Leech Lake to Lake Vermilion. The narrow but powerful storm cell toppled trees on power lines and broke approximately 14 poles. Many trees came down, even healthy trees from saturated, soppy-wet grounds combined with high winds.

Dispatchers and all available crews went to work right away Sunday morning to assign crews to each outage, assess the damage and restore service. Additional help was called in from Lake Country Power’s construction and tree crews, and Lake States Construction.

At the height of Sunday morning’s storm, more than 7,000 members were affected at nearly 180 points of service. St. Louis County was hit the hardest followed by Itasca County.
