How Hoodoo Point got it’s name?!
P.Moraski/Tower MN
This is what I found through some digging. I have always wondered where the name originated from.
The name Hoodoo Point in Tower, traces back to the area’s logging industry.
In the 1800s, the Duluth & Iron Range Railroad (built by Charlemagne Tower) ran spur lines east of Tower-one specifically heading to Hoo-Doo Point on Lake Vermilion. That spur served a large logging camp and sawmill located at that point, where the timber was processed and shipped out by rail.
The logging camp likely adopted the name for convenience, and it stuck-even as the area has evolved into a great destination place for family camping and a recreational hub, on beautiful Lake Vermilion!
