Fishing with Z

Wow, what a week on the Big V! We had a massive weather swing this week that made things very interesting! The bite was decent however and we put some quality fish in the boat all week long. With that being said, it was not easy but with a little bit of work you could put together a solid bag.

The main techniques this week were trolling and jigging. Making long trolls and not going over the same water twice was key in actually catching some better quality fish. It’s going to be interesting to see how the trolling bite progresses as we have a warm up coming and last year the lead bite kept going when it stayed warm.

We also caught fish on jigs in a variety of places. Transitions, shallow rock, deep rock, and deep holes all produced a couple of fish. Yes, a couple. Most of our spots we were catching 2-3 fish on the best spot and that was all. I did hear of more fish being caught on Sunday (9/7) but I did not get out.

This is the best time of year to be on Vermilion! The weather is looking like it’s going to be perfect fall weather for the next 10 days or so! The bite should pickup after last week’s cold front. Trolling, jigging, jigging raps, and spinner rigs are all going to be in play. Pick your favorite technique and go fishing!

Options for trips are becoming very limited! 10-12 days left in October and few in September is all I have left for the season! Some of the best fishing is still to come! Give me a call or text (218) 404-9200 and let’s go catch some fish! Plenty of time left this fall!!! Then it’s on to deer season!

As always, tight lines!
