Fishing with Z

Fishing report!
Week #5 6/10-6/16
Water temp: 64-68

Change change and more change! That’s been the theme this week compared to last! The fast and furious bobber bite seems be coming to an end as we are approaching summertime here on The Big V!

There’s a lot of bugs and fresh crayfish in the system now so it’s becoming harder to get walleyes to commit to a leech! However, we are still getting good amounts of fish and getting enough quality keepers to make anyone’s day! It’s not easy by any means and we are burning more gas than my wallet likes but we are grinding it out every day and the results show!

Slip bobbers are still my go to with a big leech on the end. I have gotten a few fish on a jig and minnow and jig and leech but they are few and far between. Floating a bobber and leech over rock in 8-20’ of water has been working for us. That’s a wide range yes, but there’s fish all over right now and you can target them at any depth. 12-18’ has produced far better than deeper or shallower.

The name of the game seems to be letting them soak for a good while. Wind helps as you can get a more natural presentation with the leech floating right into the walleyes faces as that’s what they want, they don’t need to work for food right now. We are still running and gunning but giving spots a little more time, 15-20 minutes versus the 5-10 like last week.

Key points from this week…fish are everywhere, Keep moving and keep casting on their heads, it’s a major transition time now with lots of food in the system. Keep all of those things in mind and go fishing, don’t get discouraged if the first 5-7 spots you don’t have limits or they aren’t crushing your baits, keep moving and keep fishing and you’ll get them.

June is all but booked. I have a few evening dates available for last minute trips if anybody wants to get out! Evening has been very good lately!!! I’m now booking into July! For those interested, the first two weeks of July are early morning and late evening (6-10 and 5-9) trips targeting those super low light conditions to capitalize on the best feeding times dragging Lindy’s and bobber fishing. As we get into the second half of July we will start to see some amazing fishing and then we will roll right into lead core time for the next 5-6 weeks! Lead core trips are starting to book up pretty good already so don’t hesitate to reach out! (218) 404-9200

As always, tight lines!
