Fishing with Z

Week #1 5/12-5/19 Water temp: Pike Bay 64+ and main basins 52-56 What an interesting week it was on the Big V! From 90 degrees mid week to 30 degrees at the end of the week it made for a tougher week fishing!

Before the cold front, fishing was about as good as it gets during the month of May. Trolling, Lindy’s, and jigging were all producing fish and I also heard reports of some bobber fish being caught in Pike Bay and other spawning areas. Pike Bay was very good until Wednesday for me and then the heat pushed most of the fish out of the bay. I have now switched my focus to deep water ranging from 20-40’. We did very well in 20-25’ at the mouths of spawning bays pitching jigs and dragging Lindy rigs tipped with minnows. Another very sold bite was fishing the deep holes in 30-40’ with a jig and minnow. It was very consistent action all morning long in both areas but with this cold front the fish have really shut down and the bite has been tougher starting Saturday and continuing into today. The fish are still in the same spots, they are just tougher to catch. Switching up to a Lindy rig has produced far more action than a jig right now, they want the minnow just sitting in front of their face.

This week’s forecast looks very promising with a nice warming trend! I’m confident the deep water bite will pickup again before the fish leave and head to their bobber spots for the early summer! I wouldn’t be surprised to see deep fish being caught consistently for another 10 days or more.

I have openings throughout June and the rest of the summer, If you want to get out give me a call or text anytime (218) 4049200! East or west end of Vermilion.

As always, tight lines!
