Come to the Tower Train Depot for “Miner’s Breakfast”

The Tower-Soudan Historical Society wants to make history fun! Folks from the community are all invited to a brand-new event—MINER’S BREAKFAST. On Thursday, July 10th come to Coach Car 81 at the Tower Train Depot where a delicious breakfast of Oatmeal with all the toppings or Cream of Wheat will be served to one and all.

The event begins at 9 a.m. and will include a presentation from Mickey Bloom at 10 a.m. who will talk about Cream of Wheat—produced for decades here in Minnesota and still for sale at Zup’s. Bloom will tell stories about the lifestyle of the successful and wealthy Minneapolis family who owned the Cream of Wheat company. Bloom’s mother was employed as a night nurse to the ailing owner. His wife and Bloom’s mother became fast friends for the rest of their lives.

There will also be a display of framed vintage Cream of Wheat advertisements darting back to the early 1900’s in the Man Car behind Coach Car 81. These will be on display from 9 a.m.-noon. Several will be for sale.

In the courtyard outside the train cars will be a display of vintage aprons that were from Margaret Mesojedec, wife of Joe Mesojedec, former owners of the Marjo Motel and Marjo Restaurant.

Come one, come all! Enjoy a very fun page out of history!
