Wild rice season now open, but harvesters must ensure rice is ripe
With the Aug. 15 opening of wild rice season, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reminds harvesters that rice stands must be ripe before they can be legally harvested.

Forty years ago, I walked into UPS and applied for a job to load trailers. They paid $8 per hour with overtime after five hours; minimum wage was $3.13. At the time, only 1 out of 8 applicants was offered a job. I wore dress pants, button-down shirt, tie, dress shoes – to interview for a manual labor job. I was offered the job and started a week later.
NWFA Spring Art Expo is June 5-28
For two weeks in June the Northwoods Friends of the Arts (NWFA) will be celebrating their 15th Annual Spring Art Expo! Extended Saturday hours until 4 p.m. on June 14 (Timber Days).
Timber Days Pet Show
The Timber Days Pet Show will once again be part of this year's annual Timber Days Celebration! Bring your pet, large or small and of any species, dress them up and bring them to the Pet Show! Please keep dogs leashed and kitties in pet carriers. Ribbons and prizes will be available for participants.
