Local student graduates from St. Olaf College
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (August 6, 2025) - The following local students are named Class of 2025 graduates from St. Olaf College. To graduate, students must have completed the equivalent of 35 credits through a combination of full-credit and fractional-credit courses.
Secretary Simon Concludes Term as President of the National Association of Secretaries of State
BILOXI, MS – On August 7, 2025, Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon concluded his one-year term as the President of the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS). Founded in 1904, NASS is the nation’s oldest nonpartisan professional organization for public officials. Membership is open to the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and all U.S. Territories.

Volunteers in Education Heads Back to School in September!
VinE, also known as Volunteers in Education, has been serving students in Northeast Minnesota since its founding in 2008. The organization’s core mission is to engage the community in educating its students, supporting their growth, and preparing them for productive citizenship. VinE currently serves schools within the St. Louis County, Mt. Iron-Buhl, and Rock Ridge Public School Districts and is excited to work with students again during the 2025-2026 school year.
Police Pursuit – Cook Area
On Saturday, August 2nd at approximately 0745 hours, St. Louis County Deputies received a report of a check welfare for a male passed out in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked near the railroad tracks on Johnson Rd east of Hwy 53 in the City of Cook. The male woke up and sped off while Cook Ambulance arrived on scene. 911 Dispatch received further reports of the vehicle driving recklessly afterwards.

Steve Solkela and The Road Kill Boys Perform at the LVCC
