_ _ _People who served in the military and the people who support them are urged to come to the border of Duluth and Rice Lake, Minnesota in June to run a race that helps pay for the upkeep of Veterans Memorial Hall.
NWFA reception May 9 to honor three artists
A special threesome of artists will be honored from 5 to 7 p.m. at Northwoods Friends of the Arts Gallery in Cook, with a reception celebrating their exhibits during the month of May. “Beyond the Classroom, Color and Clay” is the May exhibit by retired teachers Lyn Reed, Mark Reed and Ron Maki. The exhibit features paintings, pottery and much more created by art teachers Lyn Reed and Ron Maki, and science teacher Mark Reed who served at Floodwood, Orr, Cook and North Woods schools.
Woman dies in single vehicle crash near Orr
An early Monday morning car crash on Highway 53 near King Road in Orr claimed the life of 40-year-old Amy Lynn Johnson of Virginia, Minn. The crash happened around 1:30 a.m.

The Cook Lions Club will take old eyeglasses for the needy. Glasses may be dropped off at Scenic Rivers Cook Medical Clinic, Cook Hospital, North Star Credit Union, and First National Bank.
