Lake Country Power members impacted by lightning, wind and toppling trees
Cohasset, MN – A second wave of severe thunderstorms in less than 48 hours is affecting electric service for 5,600 Lake Country Power members, as of 4:30 a.m., Monday, June 23. This storm follows Saturday’s tornado warnings and storm that impacted more than 7,000 co-op members. Most of the weekend’s outages were restored by late Sunday night.
Trout stocked in Iron Range mine pits
Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation (IRRR), in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), continues its long-standing fish stocking program in legacy mine pits across the region. On June 4, rainbow trout were released at Kinney Pit in Kinney as part of the spring stocking effort. In total, approximately 5,600 rainbow trout — totaling 2,800 pounds — were stocked in 2024 at Kinney, Mott, St. James and Tioga pits.
Iowa State University announces spring 2025 Dean’s List
AMES, Iowa (June 25, 2025) – More than 11,300 Iowa State University students have been recognized for outstanding academic achievement by being named to the 2025 spring semester Dean’s List. Students named to the Dean’s List must earn a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded course work.

St. Louis County reflects on 2025 legislative session
Following the Minnesota Legislature’s passage of multiple major bills during the special session that wrapped up early on June 10, St. Louis County leaders reflected on the wins and losses of the session and issued this statement. During the June 10 County Board meeting, commissioners noted their appreciation for the local delegation for their hard work and advocacy on behalf of the citizens of St. Louis County, recognizing these are challenging times with competing priorities.
Public input wanted for new Safety Action Plan focused on St. Louis County roads
St. Louis County Public Works is developing a new Safety Action Plan (SAP). The plan will focus on all county roads except those in Duluth. (The Duluth-Superior Metropolitan Interstate Council is conducting a separate Safety Action Plan.) The Safety Action Plan studies are made possible thanks to federal funding from the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Program.
