We are six months into President Trump’s 2nd term. The border is secured for the first time in 4 years. Iran’s nuclear aspirations are gone. It appears that Israel and Gaza war is over. The 2017 tax cuts are extended along with one of the largest tax cuts for the middle class ever. No more taxes on tips and limits on overtime taxes. The military is seeing a resurgence – a strong military provides safety for a nation.
Lane splitting and filtering now legal in Minnesota
Lane splitting and lane filtering are now legal in certain circumstances. The new law allows motorcycles to share lanes with cars for the first time in the state, with notable restrictions on speed and where lane sharing can be performed.
Haarfager Lodge #40, Sons of Norway, 2025 Scholarship Awarded
Vincent Kajala, Tower, MN is the recipient of the 2025 Haarfager Lodge #40, Sons of Norway, scholarship. He graduated this Spring from the North Woods High School in Cook and was attending MN North Mesabi as a full-time PSEO student. He will be graduating from there in May 2026 with his AA degree when he plans to transfer to a university to pursue a degree in Business. He and his brother own and operate EVK Services in Cook offering yard maintenance, property management and snow removal.

Double Header at the LVCC Next Week
The Lake Vermilion Cultural Center will be hosting two exciting events next week. First, on Tuesday, July 15 at 7:00 PM Award winning author of Tree Spirited Woman, Colleen Baldrica, will share her inspirational story and discusses the writing process followed by a Q & A session. A free-will donation will be accepted at the door for her talk.

Fordahl returns with gratitude from Electric Cooperative Youth Tour
Cohasset, Minn. – Lake Country Power sponsored Tegan Fordahl from South Ridge School, Culver, Minn., to attend what has been called a “trip of a lifetime” to Washington, D.C. Fordahl traveled in June with 28 other Minnesota students to join nearly 2,000 high schoolers from across the country to participate in the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour.

Ruby’s Pantry food distribution is July 10
The next Ruby’s Pantry will be a drive-through food distribution at the old Cook School north side on Thursday, July 10, 4:30-6 p.m.; $25 cash donation.
Cook Hospital Blood Drive is July 9
On Wednesday, July 9, a Memorial Blood Centers blood drive will be held at the Cook Hospital from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The blood drive bus will be parked at the hospital.
