2025 Loon Count
Every year, a certain designated Monday in July dawns under a level of apprehension among veteran loon counters. Will today be a ‘Go’? If it’s rainy or if the water’s really choppy, no clear loon sightings will be possible, and there will be no accurate count of Pairs, Singles, and Chicks. Plan B is always to reschedule and attempt the count two days hence.
Minnesota PUC issues key decisions on the carbon-free energy transition
St. Paul, Minn. – On Thursday, the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) issued necessary decisions to guide electric utilities in achieving compliance with the state’s Carbon-Free Standard enacted in 2023. These decisions address critical aspects of the clean energy transition, including utility preparedness, compliance measurement, the continued use of Renewable Energy Credits, the accounting of net market purchases and the expedited deployment of carbon-free projects.

Fatal Beatty Township House Fire Under Investigation
At approximately 9:20 on Thursday night, St. Louis County Sheriff's Office along with fire personnel from Cook, Orr, Kinney-Great Scott, and Greenwood responded to a residential house fire in Beatty Township.
Blueberry Arts FestivalJuly 25-27
It’s the 45th annual Blueberry Arts Festival. The festival features 237 booths filled with artists and crafters, food vendors, a beer garden, and freshly-baked blueberry pies. It is a three-day event that draws 30,000 to 40,000 festival-goers annually.
4-H Shines Bright at the St. Louis County Fair.
St. Louis County 4-H invites the community to celebrate youth development in action at the St. Louis County Fair from July 30–August 3, held at the fairgrounds in Chisholm. This year’s events are packed with engaging exhibits, hands-on learning, and two exciting highlights: the grand opening of the 4-H Clover Café and the always popular 4-H Market Livestock Ribbon Auction.
