Cisco and whitefish sport netting to open on northern lakes
Netting for harvesting cisco, also referred to as tullibee, and whitefish for personal use will be open this fall on designated lakes. Whitefish and cisco sport netting is open to Minnesota residents only. About 700 Minnesotans participate each year.


Donate old eyeglasses
The Cook Lions Club will take old eyeglasses for the needy. Glasses may be dropped off at Scenic Rivers Cook Medical Clinic, Cook Hospital, North Star Credit Union, and First National Bank.

St. Louis County Board seeks proposals for Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention
St. Louis County is looking for ideas on how to prevent the introduction or limit the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) in lakes, rivers and other bodies of water. The County is scheduled to receive $708,865 in grant money to award in 2026 through the state’s AIS Prevention Aid Program.

Friends, family, and neighbors are coming together to support Shawn Villebrun, who was diagnosed with stomach and liver cancer. Shawn is currently undergoing palliative care chemotherapy, facing his treatments with courage and the quiet strength that those who know him have always admired.
