TOWER, MN—Lines were cast, reels buzzed, and friendly rivalries surfaced as the Carpenters Union held its annual fishing contest at beautiful Fortune Bay on Lake Vermilion this past weekend. The event drew union members, families, and friends from across the region for a day of angling, camaraderie, and a little healthy competition.
Participants hit the water early, hoping to hook the biggest catch and earn bragging rights. Walleye, northern pike, and smallmouth bass were all in play, with prizes awarded for the largest fish in each category as well as a “mystery weight” prize that kept everyone guessing.
“The fishing contest is one of our favorite traditions,” said a union representative. “It brings our members together outside of the job site and celebrates the hard work and dedication carpenters show all year long.”
Families enjoyed a shore-side picnic and kids had their own special fishing division, ensuring fun for anglers of all ages. The warm fall weather made for perfect fishing conditions, and the stunning backdrop of Lake Vermilion added to the day’s charm.
At the end of the weigh-in, winners took home trophies, gift cards, and plenty of fish tales to share back on the job. But more than the prizes, the event highlighted the union’s spirit of community and the strong bonds among its members.
The Carpenters Union plans to continue the tradition next year, with hopes of an even bigger turnout and more impressive catches.
