Fishing with Z

Week #2 of the open water season! 5/19-5/26 Water temp: 57-60 The Big V is starting to come alive….

Lots of big fish and nice keepers were caught this week! The fishing was not “great” but it was definitely steady and respectable the entire week and improving! This memorial weekend they seemed to have their moments and were pretty easy to catch at different times of the day.

The main bites this week were similar to last. Deep holes with jigs and Lindy’s and we started seeing the sand bite take off this weekend!

The beginning of the week was focused on deep holes with jigs and Lindy’s with minnows. As the temperature has been rising, the jig bite for me has gone to zero and Lindy bite has taken off! Pulling Lindy rigs with minnows at .4-.5 mph he produced a bunch of fish! Focusing of sand transitions to rock, mud, and gravel are the areas holding fish. It’s not uncommon to check a few spots and they have zero fish and the next spot is loaded. Red, purple, and white hooks have produced equal numbers of fish.

With these warm temps we are seeing a pretty good late evening bobber bite with slip bobbers and leeches. It’s just the very very beginning of this bite so don’t be surprised to only catch a couple in each spot and then have to move.

The forecast is perfect for a phenomenal shallow bite to start in the next few days. Grab some leeches and a slip bobber and pick your favorite rock pile and go have a great time!!

I have openings throughout June and the rest of the summer, if you want to get out give me a call or text anytime (218) 4049200! Availability is becoming very limited so don’t hesitate to reach out. East or west end of Vermilion, mornings and evenings open.

As always, tight lines!
